Mechanical Engineer – New Graduate
Green Hydrogen | Electrolyzer Stack & System Design | Entry Level
Burlington, MA (Greater Boston) • On-Site • Full-Time • Start January or June 2027
ABOUT ENVISION ENERGY
Envision Energy is a global green technology company with operations across Asia, Europe, and North America. We design, build, and operate smart wind turbines, develop advanced energy storage and battery systems, and produce green hydrogen — all in service of one mission: solving the challenges of a sustainable future.
Green hydrogen is central to that mission. Made from renewable electricity and water, it is a zero-emission fuel for the industries that are hardest to decarbonize — steel, chemicals, fertilizer, and heavy transportation. Our H2 Center of Excellence in Burlington, Massachusetts is where we develop and scale the electrolyzer technology that makes it possible: raising efficiency, lowering cost, and bringing production to industrial scale.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are hiring an entry-level Mechanical Engineer from the Class of 2027 to join our electrolyzer engineering team. This role is built specifically for new college graduates — you will complete your degree in December 2026 or May 2027 and start with us in January 2027 or summer 2027.
This is a hands-on design role. You will take parts and assemblies from CAD model to prototype to production — designing components for our water electrolyzer stacks and systems, building and testing them, and helping scale them from the lab bench to full-scale manufacturing. You'll work side by side with experienced mechanical, systems, process, and electrochemistry engineers, and you'll see your designs built, tested, and shipped.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design components and assemblies for water electrolyzer stack platforms and balance-of-plant systems using 3D CAD.
- Build, test, and iterate on prototypes — then refine designs based on test data to improve performance, reliability, and cost.
- Help scale electrolyzer stacks from lab scale to full-scale production by designing fixtures and tooling, supporting process development, and handing designs off to manufacturing.
- Create engineering drawings with GD&T, bills of materials (BOMs), and design documentation.
- Work with the systems team to design, fabricate, and commission test stations, and run operational testing.
- Investigate electrolyzer failures related to mechanical component degradation and support root cause analysis.
- Run and improve factory acceptance testing (FAT) methods for stacks and systems.
- Partner with supply chain and vendors on prototype parts, design for manufacturability (DFM), and stack and system cost reduction.
- Travel occasionally (up to 15%), including internationally, to work with Envision's global engineering and manufacturing teams.
WHAT YOU'LL GAIN
- Design ownership early: your parts and fixtures get built, tested, and used — not just modeled.
- Full product life cycle: concept, prototype, test, scale-up, and production, all in one role.
- Clean energy scale-up experience: a front-row seat taking green hydrogen technology from development to industrial production.
- Global perspective: collaborate with Envision teams and sites around the world.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field — completed between December 2026 and May 2027.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD — Creo preferred; experience in SolidWorks, NX, Inventor, Fusion 360, or similar transfers well.
- Understanding of fabrication methods (machining, sheet metal, molding, additive) and their trade-offs from prototype to high-volume production.
- Hands-on build experience with shop equipment (mill, lathe, 3D printer, laser cutter, etc.) — a university machine shop, makerspace, or student project team counts.
- Hands-on engineering experience through internships, co-ops, research labs, senior design / capstone projects, or engineering student teams (e.g., Formula SAE, Baja, rocketry, robotics).
- Clear communication with people across technical backgrounds — engineers, technicians, and suppliers.
- Curious, organized, and comfortable in a fast-paced, hands-on lab and production environment.
- Genuine interest in clean energy, hydrogen, or climate technology.
Nice to Have (not required — if you meet most of the above, we encourage you to apply)
- Coursework, research, internship, or project experience with electrolyzers, fuel cells, flow batteries, or other batteries.
- Exposure to FEA or CFD (ANSYS preferred; COMSOL, SolidWorks Simulation, or similar).
- Familiarity with GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and engineering drawing standards.
- Experience with design of experiments (DOE), test rigs, data acquisition, or data analysis (Python, MATLAB, or Excel).
- Experience with sealing and gasket design, pressure vessels, fluid systems, or bolted joints.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Base salary: $80,000 – $100,000 annually. Placement within the range depends on degree level (Bachelor's vs. Master's), skills, and relevant experience.
- Bonus: eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus of up to 15% of base salary.
- Health: medical, dental, and vision insurance with 100% employer-paid premiums — no paycheck deductions for your coverage.
- Retirement: 401(k) with company match.
- Time off: generous PTO, 8 federal holidays + 4 floating holidays, and paid sick leave.
- Family: paid parental leave; Flexible Spending Accounts for medical and dependent care.
- Protection: basic and optional life insurance; short- and long-term disability insurance.
- Relocation: relocation assistance will be considered for the right candidate.
