Because of this, we are seeking an ambitious and highly motivated Blade Structural Integrity Design Engineer.
As an integral part of Envision’s international structural blade design team, you will lead critical analyses for our rapidly expanding global fleet, soon to be the largest in the world. We are seeking a dedicated professional to drive Root Cause Analysis, swiftly identifying and implementing corrective and preventive actions to minimize the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) across the business. In this role, you will also develop advanced composite structure modeling and evaluation expertise, while delivering innovative solutions to reduce COPQ through effective corrective and preventive measures.

Special Note:
This key role reports to a manager based in Boulder, CO, USA with the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere in the world.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for blade structure damage and failures in the field
  • Develop and implement solutions for corrective and preventive actions, including verification plans
  • Coordinate with field operations teams to ensure proper execution of corrective actions
  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams for effective implementation of preventive actions
  • Develop detailed analytical models and Finite Element (FE) models to support RCA and action plans
  • Deliver RCA reports promptly to key internal stakeholders and external customers/third parties
  • Maintain and enhance blade standard repair specifications by introducing efficient repair solutions
  • Propose new technology ideas for field repairs and non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections
  • Travel to wind farms (international) to address critical blade issues as needed
  • Travel to headquarters (China) to ensure alignment and coordination on key field cases
Requirements:
  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Engineering, with a focus on Structural Design (e.g., Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil)
  • 5+ years of experience in reliability engineering for composite structures (design, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive solutions)
  • 5+ years of experience with CAE software (e.g., ANSYS Mechanical) for composite structures, including nonlinear FEA
  • Strong knowledge of composite structure mechanics, damage models, and analysis methods
  • Strong knowledge of 8D approach for solving operational issues in blades
  • Proficiency in programming languages like MATLAB, Python, or similar
  • Experience in engineering documentation and technical communication with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Expertise in Finite Element Methods, including beam, shell, and solid mechanics
  • Experience in reviewing engineering drawings and specifications
  • Willingness to travel internationally (at least 25%), primarily to China, with potential travel to India, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Strong team player, capable of collaborating with global teams
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in reliability tools and techniques (e.g., FMEA, Weibull analysis, statistical engineering)
  • Experience in developing engineering software
  • Experience in testing and validation of composite structures
  • Experience with wind turbine blade certification
  • Knowledge of bolted connection and adhesive joint design
  • Experience in manufacturing wind blades or composite structures
  • Familiarity with designing Lightning Protection systems and related electrical components
  • Fluency in Mandarin

Salary: $100K to 135k, depending on the appropriate experience.

Candidates should expect up to 25% travel.
