Green hydrogen plays an essential role towards our net-zero mission.  Hydrogen has widespread industrial and transport applications.  Conventional hydrogen production from fossil fuels is accompanied by the release of large quantities of carbon dioxide. Our innovative technologies use renewable energy and water to produce green hydrogen with zero emission.  We aspire to improve efficiency, reduce the cost, and scale the manufacturing to meet booming green hydrogen market.    

 

We are therefore seeking a highly motivated EHS Officer to join our newly launched H2 Center of Excellence (COE) near Boston, MA.

 

Position Summary:

 

The EHS and Facility Officer is responsible for managing the organization's safety programs to protect employees and company assets, ensuring safe working conditions. This role involves formulating and enforcing work safety standards and procedures. Key risk prevention areas include hazardous materials exposure, accidents, fires, and other unsafe conditions. The officer ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and advises management on problem correction.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Maintain the safety and operations of chemistry and electrochemistry-based R&D labs, as well as mechanical assembly-based light manufacturing facilities.
  • Evaluate requirements and manage all Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives and permitting. Serve as the subject matter expert on municipal, state, and federal legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OH&SA).
  • Maintain current and accurate information on the company’s Incident Management Reporting system, and work with site leadership on timely reporting and investigation of loss events such as injuries, spills, and near-miss events.
  • Conduct weekly environmental health and safety inspections and support managers/leads in ensuring all corrective actions are tracked and resolved to completion.
  • Develop and implement a variety of safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance as mandated by state and federal legislation. Conduct on-site training courses as needed.
  • Oversee the management, implementation, and coordination of the safety program, including the Fire Safety Program, to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses. Develop accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into company operational policies.
  • Manage the investigation of reports of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions, review recommendations, and take appropriate actions to mitigate potential safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Develop or assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures consistent with company standards to ensure efficient and safe operations.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-term goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitor and evaluate program/project effectiveness and implement improvements as needed.
  • Develop, implement, and present environmental health and safety training programs.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of systems to maintain records on employees, equipment inventories, and compliance activities.
  • Responsible for the initial and ongoing training of all employees and interns.
  • Maintain safety equipment inventory, perform periodic safety inspections, and monitor hazardous waste removal vendors.

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in health and safety preferred or relevant year of experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience with progressive responsibilities in safety, environment, engineering or related experience in R&D and production spaces, distribution centers or similar environments.
  • EHS certificate is an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Good knowledge of the various laws governing EHS.
  • Good control of the various laws and regulations on the environment and regulatory affairs.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly collaborative spirit with a strong team and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite and/or other software

Salary: $75k - $95k + Annual Performance Bonus depending on appropriate experience
